First of all, be advised that I shall be adding to this list as questions are asked and answered; thus making this database of questions larger. This is an excellent place to start for new members!
:: Q1 :: I asked a question about the rules/art/affiliations/etc, and no one has replied to my question! Are the Staff ignoring me? -- Nope! When any member posts with a question, Administrators and other staff will not respond with a new post, but by editing your post with their answer. So, when you look to see if someone has answered it, you need to look at your actual post, and not the post count for that thread.

:: Q2 :: There's a lot of neat buttons and text effects that I can add to my post when I start a thread or edit a post... How do I use them? -- Most of the text options are fairly easy to use. Just click and they are pretty self-explanitory. However, there are some that require a little more know-how.
One "instant code" that requires some add-ons is the Hyperlink button. This button will insert this code:
Code: This code is used to insert a link into a post, where the link is not the address itself, but appears as a word or even a picture. To put a url into the hyperlink, complete it like this:
Code:| [url=ADDRESS]Word/Picture[/url] |
|
Where it says "Address" you would insert the url link, and in "Word/Picture" you would either type a word (or words) or insert the image code with the url between the two bracketed codes.

:: Q3 :: I have a really neat picture that I found off of google/photobucket/other, and it doesn't have a copyright, or an obvious owner, can I still use it if I prove the link from where I got it?
This is a difficult question to answer for several reasons. For one, the lack of a copyright, signature, or other mark making it "owned" does give the impression of universal ownership (belonging to anyone who comes across it). To make things as simple as possible, here's a "short" guide to using pictures.
If you find a picture that bears no copyright or signature, you may use it IF you (1) link back to the original page where the image was found and (2) use the image not as an exact representation of your character. The reason for the second rule is copyright idea infringement - because even if an artist does not sign the work, it is still a piece from his/her imagination and thus belongs to the artist in theory and practice.
If you find a picture that does have a signature or copyright on it, you may not use it unless you have permission from the artist to do so; and in that, you must follow any rules the artist sets forth.
